RML SALEEN TOPS GTS QUALIFYING

The British RML Saleen S7R took pole position in the European Le Mans Series GTS category at Jamara today (Saturday) with a lap of 1'31.583. The RML driver team of Belgian Bruno Lambert and Briton Ian McKellar jnr won the first round of the ELMS series at Donington Park on April 14 and is seeking its second win in Sunday's race.

The RML Saleen was 0.715 second ahead of the Konrad Motorsport Saleen, crewed by Franz Konrad, Tony Seiler and Walter Brun. The RML Saleen also finished 1.285 seconds ahead of GT class-leading BMW M3 GTR, driven by Frederick Ekblom and Dirk Muller.

The RML team reported that the variable weather conditions during the day with overnight rain followed by cloud in the morning and sun in the afternoon had made tyre choices difficult, but the Saleen had run well in morning practice and qualifying on its Dunlop tyres.

Team boss Ray Mallock and the drivers confirmed that the Saleen had performed strongly since it had arrived in Spain. "We are very happy with the car's performance and have been adjusting the set up for a tight, rather technical track," said Ray Mallock.

"Sunday's race will suit the car and everyone at RML is making the most of the final opportunity for drivers and the team to prepare the RML Saleen for the Le Mans 24-Hour race under race conditions. Progress has been very good."
