6 Hours of The Glen
May 17 - 19, 2001

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (May 17, 2001) -- The Rolex Sports Car Series' Six Hours of The Glen opened on Wednesday afternoon with rainy practice conditions at Watkins Glen International. Reminiscent of the Rolex Series race in Phoenix three weeks ago, the temperature dropped as the rain fell over the raceway. Several teams opted to skip the rainy practice session, hoping for better conditions on Friday.

Only a handful the open-cockpit SportsRacing Prototype cars ventured out onto the track, with none of the prototypes posting their typically impressive times. The fastest lap of the session went to the Flis Motorsports Team X-1R Corvette with a 1:59.042 lap time at 102.821 mph. However, even it was nine seconds slower than the track record.

The Robinson Racing Team debuted its new Riley & Scott Mark IIIC chassis for a few rainy laps today, as Doran Lista Racing marked its return to the Ferrari chassis.
