January 23, 2002, Road Atlanta, GA - The 2000 and 2001 Grand-Am SRPII Championship winning team, Archangel Motorsport, will defend it's 2001 class win at Daytona in the upcoming 40th Rolex 24 on February 2 & 3, 2002.
Archangel Motorsports Services, Inc., headquartered at Road Atlanta, is fresh off from a repeat of their Grand-Am SRPII Championship season, having won the SR PII class team and driver's titles back-to-back in 2000 and 2001. The accomplished team will be racing toward a second straight Rolex class victory after winning in their first ever attempt last year.
Archangel will field two cars in the legendary endurance event - the #21 Budweiser Nissan Lola B2K/40 piloted by Jeff Clinton, Jeff Tillman, Curtis Francois and Larry Connor, and sharing driving stints in the #22 DNTLworks/CyberGrad Nissan Lola B2K/40 will be Steve Knight, Mel Hawkins, Brian DeVries and Chad Block.
"We will again field two cars at this year's Rolex 24," says team owner Michael Johnson. "Hopefully that will increase our chances at a second straight class victory. We learned a lot last year about what it takes to succeed in this classic endurance race, and we are planning to put that knowledge to good use. I think the Rand and Spencer cars will give us the toughest fight but as everyone well knows this race has never been won on speed alone."
Archangel is proud to have the continued support of the Anheuser-Busch Company, the world's largest brewery, with the Budweiser brand continuing on the #21 car for the second straight season.
The team also welcomes DNTLworks Equipment Corporation, internationally recognized as the world's leading manufacturer of portable, mobile and self-contained dental equipment, as sponsor of the #22 team car along with Gestetner, an innovator in the office equipment industry, offering leading edge digital document management solutions. Both team cars will also highlight additional team sponsors Speedcom Communications, Valvoline, REM, Stand21 Racewear, and Hella Lights and will compete shod with the new Dunlop spec tire.
