HOUR 1
2:27 p.m. -- Famous driver Phil Hill gives the command for drivers to start their engines. The #16 Dyson Racing Team car stalls on the grid and has to start in the back of the field when he gets it restarted. The #78 Sezio Florida Racing Team car had to start from the pits, because it did not make it to the grid before the end of the 10 minutes of reconnaissance laps. The #78 eventually moved to the back of the pack to start the race.
2:36 p.m. -- Green flag falls. The #5 Fordahl Motorsports car is black flagged for a stop and go penalty for passing before the green flag.
2:44 p.m. -- #02 Mosler pulls off the track with the crew reporting it has no gears. Crew reports that the transmission linkage broke. A small bolt sheared of the linkage. This was the first race for this car. One of its sister cars competed at the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Nextel 250.
2:51 p.m. -- #37 passes the #27 for second place. #20 maintains the lead running nose to tail with the #37. The #37 misses the chicane, allowing the #27 to move ahead of him, but Field passes Theys again in the boot.
2:53 p.m. -- #37 passes the #20 to take the lead. The #54 comes into the pits with a leaking radiator. The crew had to replace it on Friday after an accident in qualifying, and did not have enough laps to test it today. It is reported that the #74 came in the pits earlier with a tire puncture.
2:58 p.m. -- LEADERS: #37, #16, #27, #20, #6
3:06 p.m. -- #54 returns to the track.
3:09 p.m. - #22 pits with mechanical problems
3:11 p.m. - #20 pits for new tires. Tires are very worn already.
3:14 p.m. - CLASS LEADERS: SRP - #37, #16, #27; SRPII - #21, #62, #88; GTS - #99, #5, #07; GT - #81, #50, #34; AGT - #09, #11, #46
3:19 p.m. - LEADER PITS - #37 pits allowing #16 to take over the lead with #27 in second. Leader takes four new tires and fuel.
3:21 p.m. - LEADER PITS - #16 pits for tires and fuel. #16 retains lead, followed closely by #37.
3:29 p.m. - #22 returns to the track after fixing water leak.
3:29 p.m. - LEADER CHANGE - #37 takes the lead when the #16 gets caught behind the #5.
HOUR 2
3:36 p.m. - #72 Porsche pulls off the track.
3:37 p.m. - #16 takes the lead when the leader #37 goes to the inside of the #11 Camaro, while #16 goes to the outside.
3:43 p.m. - ALL COURSE CAUTION -- #46 in the gravel coming out of the boot. #16 pits just as yellow comes out, giving #37 the lead. #16 has a driver change with Butch Leitzinger going in. While under caution, safety trucks are also picking up stalled cars that were out of the way on the track. Leader #37 pits to put in fuel and put Oliver Gavin in the car. #15 pits putting in Kim Hiskey, the only female in the race.
4:02 p.m. - RETURN TO GREEN -- LEADERS - SRP & Overall: #16, #27, #37, #20; SRPII - #21, #62, #88; GTS - #5, #99, #93; GT - #34, #81, #50; AGT - #09, #11, #46
4:02 p.m. - #74 pits just as the field goes green, with reports that the crew is changing the rear shocks. The drivers have been fighting handling problems the entire race and are hoping new shocks will help.
4:09 p.m. - Leader #16 and second-place #27 are running .5 seconds apart. The #37 is in third, 5 seconds behind the leader.
4:14 p.m. - #89 Porschehaus Racing SRPII car it’s the wall and loses its wing.
4:15 p.m. - FULL COURSE CAUTION - #6 Miracle Motorsports Ford Riley & Scott and #15 Crazy Redhead Racing Porsche GT3 RS collide in the S's in a severe wreak. Brent Sherman was in the #6. He exited the car following the accident on his own power. Kim Hiskey, the only female in the field, was in the #15. Driver side door is pushed up against the guardrail. Hiskey does not get out of the car, but there is movement in the car. Hiskey is transported to infield care center.
4:26 p.m. - #09 pits to change gearboxes after losing three gears and correct clutch problem.
HOUR 3
4:37 p.m. - RETURN TO GREEN
4:43 p.m. - CLASS LEADERS - SRP: #16, #37, #20; SRPII: #21, #62, #88; GTS: #5, #99, #93; GT: #81, #50, #34; AGT: #11, #09; #46.
4:47 p.m. - FULL COURSE CAUTION - #92 hits the guardrail then spun into the chicane. No other cars were involved. Leader #16 pits as yellow comes out. #37 takes the lead. Leader #37 pits to check and adjust tires and take fuel.
5:07 p.m. - RETURN TO GREEN
5:19 p.m. - #50 goes into gravel off of the chicane. The #50 is currently running second in the GT class, and was one lap behind the leading-GT car, #81.
5:20 p.m. - LEADER CHANGE - #16 passes #37 for the lead.
5:21 p.m. - FULL COURSE CAUTION - Track goes yellow to get #50 out of gravel. #37 pits for a driver change putting Jon Field back in. Leader #16 pits for a splash of fuel.
5:29 p.m. - RETURN TO GREEN
5:30 p.m. - CLASS LEADERS: SRP - #16, #37, #27; SRPII - #21, #62, #88; GTS - #5, #99, #07; GT - #81, #57, #34; AGT - #09, #11, 46
HOUR 4
5:38 p.m. #16 is running more than 4 seconds in front of the #37 for the lead.
5:40 p.m. LEADER CHANGE - #16 appears to have handling problems and #37 takes the lead.
5:44 p.m. #80 spins off the track and gets partially into the gravel, but is able to return to the track on its own
5:46 p.m. X-1R Pole winning #20 goes behind the wall, and the crew does not appear to plan to return.
5:47 p.m. FULL COURSE CAUTION - #9 BMW gets into the gravel off of the chicane. Leaders #37 and #16 pits. #37 exits first after taking fuel only. #16 takes fuel and tires. #93 goes behind the wall. #34 stalls just before the pit entrance, extending the yellow flag. #93 returns to the track. #78 returns to the track after a long pit stop for axle repairs.
6:02 p.m. RETURN TO GREEN - LEADERS: SRP & Overall - #37, #16, #27; SRPII - #62, #21, #88; GTS - #5, #99, #07; GT - #81, #57, #75; AGT - #09, #11, #46
6:05 p.m. Leaders #37 and #16 go nose to tail through the chicane.
6:06 p.m. #74 returns to the track after a long pit stop for wiring repairs.
6:08 p.m. LEADER CHANGE - #16 takes the lead in turn one from #37.
6:10 p.m. #74 returns to pits slowly after only one lap on the track
6:27 p.m. #09 pushes #37 into the guardrail, giving the #37 a flat tire and bodywork damage on both sides. #37 pits for repairs and driver change.
6:30 p.m. LEADER PITS - #16 pits for driver change putting James Weaver in the car.
6:33 p.m. FULL COURSE CAUTION - #22 goes into the tires at boot entrance. Driver Larry Conner exits car acting extremely upset with himself.
HOUR 5
7:41 p.m. #20 finally returns to the track with Dyson behind the wheel… the SRPII-leading #62 returns to the track after an extended pit stop with mechanical problems… #81 lost the GT lead when it pitted for driver change putting Darren Law in
7:43 p.m. #16 is leading with the #27 running 35 seconds behind… it is unknown if the leaders can finish the race without a fuel stop
7:46 p.m. CLASS LEADERS - SRP - #16 leads of #27 (30 seconds); SRPII - #62 leads #21 (on same lap); GTS - #5 leads #99 (4 laps ahead); GT - #57 leads #81 (on same lap); AGT - #09 leads #11 (2 laps ahead)
7:47 p.m. #78 stops on the NASCAR straightaway section of the chicane out of way of traffic
7:54 p.m. CLASS LEADER CHANGE - GT-leading #57 pits for driver change putting Collins in and allowing #81 to regain the GT lead
7:56 p.m. #16 lead has been cut 17 seconds by the #27… #57 has a flat right front tire and coming around slowly trying to get to the pits… #20 has officially retired due to overheating…
7:59 p.m. LEADER PITS - #16 pits for fuel for 12 seconds allowing #27 to retake the lead… it is unknown if #27 will have to pit for fuel as well
8:03 p.m. #27 holds nearly a 30 second lap over the #16… the #46 officially retires due to a broke drive train… #27 crew says they will need a splash and go in order to finish the race..
8:11 p.m. #27 sets the fastest race lap of the day on lap 162 with a 1:39.617. Didier Theys is behind the wheel of the Ferrari, that holds a 55 second lead over the #16 that has reported it has lost a cylinder. The #16 plans to stay out in order to hold on to second place. The third place SRP car is the #74 running 10 laps behind.
8:17 p.m. Sunset falls over Watkins Glen International with #27 holding more than a minute lead over the #16 car
8:21 p.m. #27 laps the #16 car, leaving the #27 as the only car on the lead lap
8:25 p.m. #27 pits for brief fuel stop
8:32 p.m. GT leader #81 was involved in a collision, but maintains the class lead by several laps.
8:33 p.m. #72 lost a wheel and pulled to the side out of the way… official report that both Kim Hiskey and Brent Sherman, who were transported to the hospital earlier, have been released
8:35 p.m. #27 gets the white flag… #27 drivers through accident involving #61… #27 takes checkered flag
