Biela and Pirro Set the Pace in Spain:
The Audi R8 of Frank Biela and Emmaunele Pirro set the pace in the two hour test session for the second round of the 2001 European Le Mans Series at Jarama. Once again it was the three Audi's which set the pace, with the Gulf sponsored car of Stefan Johansson and Guy Smith mixing it with the two works machines.
The Panoz LMP07 of Jan Magnussen and David Brabham was the first non Audi, finishing the session 1.5 seconds adrift of Biela and Pirro.
The fastest time in the LMP 675 class went to the Dick Barbour Racing Reynard Judd of De Radigues and Van de Poele, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of the Rooch-Knighthawk Lola of Mel Hawkins and Earl Goddard. The GTS honours went to the RML entered Saleen S7R of Lambert and McKellar and the Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 of Pobst and Collard was the quickest car in the highly competitive GT category, even out pacing the RML Saleen in the process.
The cars will take to the track tomorrow at 11:30 local time for qualifying practice and then qualifying takes place at 15:30 for the GTS and GT classes, followed at 16:20 by the two prototype classes.
